A Brief Overview of the UNODC Global Judicial Integrity Network’s Recent Activities
1) The Global Judicial Integrity Network was one of the winning teams in the Gender Equity Track at the AI for Good Global Summit. The Network presented a project focused on preventing gender bias and discrimination in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems used in judiciaries. The project is focused on developing, launching, and maintaining a practical framework of global recommendations that judiciaries can use to develop AI systems to ensure that they do not replicate or deepen gender-related issues. It will include a repository of good practices, as well as a self-assessment guide for judiciaries that already have existing AI applications. This is a continuation of their previous work on gender-related issues in the judiciary, as well as their work on the ethical use of AI.
2) In the frame of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, the Global Judicial Integrity Network organized a side event titled “Exploring the Effects of Organized Crime and Corruption on the Integrity and Independence of the Judiciary” in collaboration with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Diego Garcia-Sayan. IAWJ member Judge Mina Sougrati of Morocco was a panelist at this event. The video recording of this session will be made available on the Network’s website.
