Golden Gate Law Dean Emerita Drucilla Stender Ramey has devoted her career to the enhancement of equal access and opportunity in the justice system and broader society. Following her years as a civil rights attorney in private practice and at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), Ms. Ramey served for 17 years at the Executive Director and General Counsel of the Bar Association of San Francisco, working with an activist board to lead BASF to national leadership in the provision of pro bono legal services and in effecting equality for women, people of color, the LGBT community and people with disabilities. As Executive Director of the National Association of Women Judges, Ms. Ramey helped lead NAWJ’s significant efforts to achieve a more independent and diverse judiciary. More recently, as Dean of Golden Gate Law School she sought to enhance the School’s faculty and student diversity, public interest and clinical/skills training programs, and, in partnership with IAWJ, launched GGU’s International Women Judges Graduate Fellows Program. The recipient of awards including the ABA’s Margaret Brent Award, NAWJ’s Florence K. Murray Award, theAmerican Jewish Committee’s Learned Hand Award, and the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Award, Ms. Ramey is a former chair of the ACLU of Northern California and the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women, and serves as a frequent public speaker and commentator. She is a graduate of Yale Law School and a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard College
