In India only 76 out of 1079 Judges are Women Sitting on the Bench in High Courts
India | The Indian government informed recently that women barely constitute 7% of the total judges in all 25 high courts across the country. As of January, 2019, among all high courts, 6 don’t even have 1 women judge. Only 76 out of 1079 judges sitting in high courts are women.
Several have reacted to this information. Indira Jaising, former Additional Solicitor General, said on Twitter: “shocking neglect of gender diversity in courts, these seven decades after independence.”
Moreover, three members of Parliament expressed their concerns about what steps are being taken by the government to give adequate representation to women in high courts.
