IAWJ Issues International Women's Day Greeting
March 8, 2010
GREETINGS ON MARCH 8TH, 2010
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!!
All of us at the International Association of Women Judges send you our special greetings on the day that recognizes the rights, roles and contributions of women around the world.
Some of us represented the IAWJ at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women meeting in New York last week. The fact that thousands of women - both government officials and NGOs - came to the UN headquarters in New York to continue the ongoing pursuit to achieve equality, justice, peace, freedom from violence, and rights for women and girls indicates that though progress has been made, there is still much to do. At the IAWJ we will continue to find ways to encourage that women have access to the courts and that once there they will find justice. We will continue to encourage that younger women consider the judiciary as a possible career route in the future, and we will continue to find ways to provide networking opportunities, judicial education, and support for those women already on the bench in countries near and far.
On this International Women's Day, we hold up the contributions of women in so many different formal and informal ways! We congratulate each one of you for the work that you do and we look forward to working in partnership with you in 2010. We hope to see many of you at the IAWJ's 10th Biennial International Conference in Seoul, Republic of Korea, in May 2010. Together we will continue to pursue our work of pursuing equal justice and human rights for all.
With warm regards and sincere best wishes,
Joan
