International Conference Marks Launch of the Association of Women Judges of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, March 10 — An international conference titled “The Role of Women Judges in the Administration of Justice” was held in Tashkent in connection with the International Day of Women Judges and the historic establishment of the Association of Women Judges of Uzbekistan — the first organization of its kind in the history of the country's judicial system.

The International Day of Women Judges was established by the United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 75/274, adopted on April 28, 2021. Since then, the day has been widely celebrated around the world to recognize the contributions of women to the administration of justice and to promote gender equality within the judiciary.

Representatives of the International Association of Women Judges and judicial leaders from several countries — including China, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan — participated in the conference. The President of the International Association of Women Judges, Hon. Mina Sougrati, addressed participants through a video message.

During the conference, national and international experts discussed ways to further strengthen the role and importance of women judges within judicial and legal systems. Participants analyzed international best practices, exchanged experiences, and explored strategies for advancing gender equality and improving the effective administration of justice.

Within the framework of the international conference, participants also discussed the important priorities and future tasks facing the newly established Association of Women Judges of Uzbekistan.

The association aims to strengthen the role and standing of women judges within the judicial system, enhance the effectiveness of justice by developing their professional potential, facilitate the exchange of experience among women judges, expand legal knowledge and professional skills, and reinforce the authority of the judiciary while promoting the principles of justice and legality in society.

International guests expressed confidence that the Association of Women Judges of Uzbekistan, whose activities are just beginning, will play an important role in serving society, strengthening the rule of law, and enhancing the prestige and credibility of the judiciary.
