The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) is proud to launch a new interview series spotlighting the voices of women judges across Nigeria whose journeys to the bench reflect courage, resilience, and transformative leadership. These conversations offer rare, personal insight into the realities women face in judicial systems shaped by cultural norms, gender bias, structural inequality, and institutional barriers.

From navigating resistance to women’s judicial appointments, to balancing motherhood with demanding legal careers, to advocating for transparent, merit-based judicial selection processes, each interview reveals the strength and determination required not only to enter the judiciary—but to remain, lead, and inspire change from within. The judges also speak to the power of mentorship, solidarity, and professional networks in opening doors for the next generation of women in justice.

This series affirms a central truth of the IAWJ’s mission: representation on the bench is not symbolic—it is essential. When women are visible in judicial leadership, justice systems become more inclusive, more credible, and more responsive to the lived realities of the communities they serve. Through these stories, IAWJ continues to elevate women’s voices, strengthen global judicial solidarity, and advance access to justice for all.
