Hon. Justice Mujibat Iyabode Oshodi assumed the role of a Judge in the High Court of Lagos State, Nigeria, on the 31st of December 2021.


Justice Oshodi is currently serving in the General Civil Division in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, where she presides over a wide range of cases, including civil litigation, fundamental rights enforcement cases, land matters, family and matrimonial cases. Within her first year in the Judiciary, Her Ladyship has demonstrated a remarkable commitment, contributed to legal jurisprudence, and has delivered several judgments in general civil cases.


Possessing multiple degrees, Her Ladyship holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in History from the University of Lagos, an LLB (Hons.) from the Lagos State University, and a Master's degree (LLM) from the University of Lagos. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK Branch.


With over 22 years of experience gained from her public service roles prior to her appointment to the High Court Bench, Her Ladyship has undertaken various responsibilities within government justice departments and has been a member of several justice sector reform committees. Notably, she was a part of the Committee that amended the current Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State in 2020. In 2021, she was a member of the Committee that drafted the existing Criminal Law of Lagos State.


Justice Oshodi has actively participated in numerous Stakeholders Reform Committees on the Administration of Justice from 1999 to 2021. She served as a Research Member of the 2004 High Court Civil Procedure Review Committee and as Secretary to the High Court Civil Procedure Review Committee in 2009. Both committees were instrumental in introducing innovations and reforms in civil procedure that remain in place in Lagos State today.


Her Ladyship also took on the role of Associate Editor for the Lagos High Court Monthly Law Report from 2000 to 2003. In addition, she served as Secretary to the Magistracy & Justice Sector Reform Committee in February 2008, Secretary to the Primary Health Care State Executive Council Committee in 2009, and Secretary to the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (Lagos HOMS) Committee from 2011 to 2015. These roles have provided her with invaluable leadership, legal, and transferable skills applicable to the legal sector, particularly in the Lagos judiciary.


Justice Oshodi has pursued both local and international training, including participation in the Nigerian Bar Association Annual Conferences, International Bar Association Annual Conferences, Brief Writing Training, and numerous Advocacy Skills workshops. As a member of the Rising Leader Cohort, an initiative of the International Association of Women Judges, Her Ladyship aspires to advance her career on the bench and drive positive change through her decisions in her home country. Through this commendable platform, she engages with peers and global judicial leaders, expanding opportunities to support women in leadership in law initiatives.


Her Ladyship has a proven track record of accomplishments and continually refines her skills through participation in various local, national, and international workshops and conferences.


Ultimately, Her Ladyship envisions herself as a constant agent of change for social engineering, as she continues to promote and achieve effective and efficient justice administration.
