Honourable Justice Veronica Oka Agboje (Mrs.) is a Judge of the High Court of Delta State Warri Division, Delta State Nigeria. She has acquired over twenty four years post Call legal experience. She attended primary and secondary schools in Lagos State Nigeria between 1978 and 1989. She thereafter studied Law at the Edo State University (now Ambrose Alli University) Ekpoma Edo State where she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in 1997. She proceeded to the Nigeria Law School and was called to the Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1999 after obtaining a Barrister at Law (B.L) degree. She thereafter proceeded to serve her country in the mandatory youth service programme which she completed in 2000.

 

After her youth service programme, Hon. Justice Agboje worked in the Law Office of Messrs Layonu & Oyeleke between 2000 and 2004 as a general Counsel. While with Layonu & Oyeleke, her job description spanned the commencement and conduct of cases from trials to judgment, preparation and filing of court processes, rendering of company secretarial services, filing of statutory returns and undertaking of perfection of land title documents at the Lands Registry Office on behalf of clients, follow up and ensuring due execution and enforcement of judgments obtained, incorporation and registration of corporate legal entities on behalf of clients, conduct of searches at various government agencies, drafting of legal documents, etc.

 

In 2004, she gained admission to study Masters degree in Law at the University of Lagos Nigeria and she was awarded a Masters of Law (LL.M) degree in 2006. Justice Agboje worked as a Research Assistant to a Judge at the High Court of Lagos State between 2005 and 2012. While there, her schedule of duties included legal research, transcribing of electronically recorded court proceedings, electronic recording of court proceedings, preparation of Quarterly Return of cases to National Judicial Council (NJC), etc. In 2012, she got employed at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a Prosecutor. At the EFCC, her job descriptions included filing and prosecution of criminal cases, defence of civil and fundamental rights actions instituted against the Commission, successful defence of criminal and civil appeals against the Commission, writing of legal opinions on investigated cases, etc.

 

Justice Veronica Agboje was appointed a Judge of the High Court of Delta State on the 11th May 2020 and she has been presiding over cases in diverse areas of legal practice since her appointment. Her objective as a High Court Judge is to dispense justice judicially, judiciously and conscientiously with elimination of external influence and interference while upholding the supremacy of the rule of law at all times. Justice Agboje has attended local and international courses in the course of her legal sojourn.
