Thank You to Shawna Wilson

As this is Shawna’s last BMT Meeting before she returns to the State Department in a leadership role, I wish to say a few words on behalf of the members of the Board of Managerial Trustees.

When Shawna arrived on our doorstep, the IAWJ was in a crisis. There was no money and no real plans for survival.

Shawna hit the ground running putting in 90 to 100 hours a week working with staff to collect dues and donations; working with members of both boards to develop financial and administrative policies and increase dues; developing and launching webinars, a virtual training course and podcasts; developing winning grant proposals that will take the IAWJ into 2022 and 2023, and making concrete plans to update our technology infrastructure and membership database.

Shawna’s hardworking efforts led to a successful membership survey and focus groups conducted in four languages that resulted in a priorities plan for the future of IAWJ. Shawna has literally kept us alive and given us tools to make the IAWJ vibrant.

In her vision statement when she applied for the position of IAWJ Executive Director, Shawna described herself as a proven leader and manager and a creative thinker who pushes herself to develop new and innovative solutions to problems. That is exactly what Shawna brought to the IAWJ. She gave the very best of herself without ever losing her patience or sense of humor.

Shawna, the IAWJ has benefitted enormously from your intelligence, talent, hard work and creativity. We wish you every success in your new career.
